The suns' rays were slanted at an acute angle, a sign that evening was soon to come in the Eastern lands. Sango stopped walking down the dusty road and leaned on Hiraikotsu as Kirara rubbed against her legs. She smiled and put a hand over her eyebrows as she watched children play. Her smile, which had been so pure just moments before, was now melancholy. Watching the children reminded her of life in her village, the village that was destroyed by Naraku.
Sango had always thought that the disappearance of Naraku would ease the pain of her village's destruction, but it didn't undo anything. The people that were killed were still dead. There was no way to make time go backwards. The pain was there, as real as ever, as fresh as ever, and it prevented her from moving on to the future. She couldn't just forget all the people she had died, the people she had grown up with and been cared for by. But was it a blessing or a curse that she could still remember? Would it be better to just forget and move on, or was it better to feel the pain of it everyday, and not be able to do anything about it?
The smile vanished off her face completely. She felt like returning to her village to visit the graves once more...the graves that Kagome, Inuyasha, and Miroku had made. They hadn't even known the villagers yet they had buried every one of them. Even though some days it seemed like she had the worst luck in the world, she was lucky enough to have met them. After all, the world wasn't completely bad, but it would still be many years before her wounds healed, and even then, she knew that a scar would still linger.

Taro was completely exhausted (not to mention the enormous hunger problem) while running that he decided that it would be that time for him to settle down in a village for an amount of time, then he would be right back on his feet once again. He needed to get to a village that wouldn't go crazy over a half demon staying with them. After countless days of searching for such a village, his search came to an end as he ended up in a village he had been searching for.
His tail twitched and wagged as he quickly ran to the village, hopping on one of the huts. He stood and fixed his shirt that was sloppily hanging from his neck and fixed his hair (still having it frizz all over the place). He sat and sniffed, trying to find something to eat that would fill his hunger. However, he smelled something else that irritated him. The scent of a feline. Being a wolf demon, it was instinct for him to find the feline smell, find the cat, and then the rest would be up for him. He jumped from the hut and landed where some women was washing their clothes, only to turn the tub over and to be shoo-ed away by them. Had they noticed the ears and tail, they might've called the men to chase Taro out of the village. Because of him hiding the two, he was scolded like any of the older children in the village. That's when he continued to run to the feline, interrupting a children's game until he finally stopped the smell stopped and he saw his 'enemy by nature' and her owner. He stopped in his tracks and looked at the owner.
The girl was a gem to look at, however, something about her bothered him. She had a frown on her face and the girl looked like she was zoning out in space. Taro wondered why so he backed up and placed on a small smirk.
"Hey, why are you so down? In a village like this, it's hard not to smile!" He said. He looked down at the cat rubbing around her legs. He had to control his canine instincts and maintaine a cool and relaxed posture.
"My name is Taro. Taro Kenchi and....you are?" He said.

Sango's eyes flew wide open from their previous half-closed position at the arrival of something she most definitely did not know. Immediately, she tensed up. Trusting complete strangers was far from number one on the list of things she was able to do. However, after her first moment of surprise, she was able to get a good look at the boy. The first thing she noticed were the big black ears resting on top of his head, and because she was fairly certain that ears weren't the latest style, she had to be correct in thinking that he was at least partially demon. This made her tense up more. Both Inuyasha, Shippou, of course Kirara, and numerous others had proven to her that not all demons were bad, but still, a majority of them were the kinds who would kill you. The fact that she was a demon slayer did not help this stereotype. But then he asked her why she was looking down, and the feeling of distrust was replaced by one of embarrassment. Had she been zoning out in the middle of the street? Had she been letting her emotions show? Bad Sango! What the world did not need was another girl moping about how terrible her life was. She was strong enough to deal with her problems without asking for the pity or help of others.
"It's...nothing," she said, waving her hand slightly, a slightly nervous smile coming onto her face as the boy made his introduction. She had already decided that he didn't mean her any harm.
"My name is Sango," she said. Then she lowered an arm to pick Kirara off the ground and cuddle her by her shoulder, "And this is Kirara."

"You sure about that?" He said. He walked to her side and looked around at the village, then back at the cat. "I heard somewhere bottling your feelings is bad or something. If you have anything to say I'm all ears." He said with a small laugh. He continously sniffed the air, trying to catch the scent of some food. ugh, so hungry
"Sango huh? That's a nice name." He said. He looked down at the cat and watched as Sango pick her up and placed her on her shoulder. His instincts caught again as he sneezed. The human part of him stayed in control for chasing the cat down; the wolf part wanted otherwise. He gritted his teeth and eventually, calmed down.
"Hey Sango, exactly where is the nearest place here that has any animals? I'm kinda hungry," He said with an embarrassed face. Admitting his hunger was something that he usually did, asking to hunt for his food was a different story.

Sango furrowed her eyebrows, confused. Who was this person? He said his name was Taro, but that didn't tell her anything, and now he was telling her that she could tell him her feelings? She could barely tell Kagome her feelings. She never even told Miroku her feelings.
Well, she thought, of course I don't tell Miroku.
Even though Sango herself was trustworthy, trusting others was difficult. It seemed like whenever she trusted someone, they would always find a way to stab her in the back. And so now, she just didn't try. More often than not, it was a lot of work for nothing. However, he seemed to let the subject lie down. She smiled genuinely in thanks for him saying her name was pretty.
Definitely part demon, she thought when he asked her where there was a place with animals to hunt. She instinctively held Kirara a little bit closer to her, even though only a complete idiot would try to attack her. Kirara was the only one from her village that had stayed with her, and was therefore even more valuable than she had been before.
"I guess...Inuyasha's Forest," she said, thinking it sounded a bit weird. It must have been ever weirder for Inuyasha. But, there were animals in it and that was all that mattered currently.

Inuyasha sighed slightly as he sat on the roof of Kaede’s house. Kagome was talking a long time as usual and of course Inuyasha would have to go get her. It was always like this. Every single time. “Dammit Kagome!” Inuyasha yelled as he pounded his fist into the roof. He was getting very irritated and he knew one of the others would tell him to go get her from wherever she was at and to stop sulking. He didn’t know where Kagome went probably to go collect herbs or something stupid like that and he could sniff he out easily. A light breeze suddenly blew and he caught the scent of a demon that was close by. Inuyasha sniffed the air again as he tried to figure out which way the demon was. “Heh found you.” Inuyasha said as he jumped off the roof and ran in the direction the demon was in. He had already drawn his Tetsaiga and was ready for battle. Inuyasha stopped short suddenly as he saw that Sango was near the demon. “Hey Sango!” Inuyasha yelled as he put his sword away and walked over to her. “Well its not attacking and none of the villagers are running so it must be a good demon, but I should probably keep Kagome away from it. Inuyasha thought as he looked at the strange half-demon. It was only a kid anyways.
