Name: Nobushige "Yukimura" Sanada
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Orientation: Straight
Moral Alignment: Good
Occupation: Samurai
Alignment: West
Appearance: [x]
Yukimura is a tall young man, though not so tall as to be considered unusually so. His features are bold, though not overtly sharp, and filled with the defiant youthful vigor he seems to possess in abundance. He stands straight and proud, as any young man of a good upbringing would, though like any youngster, is prone to slouching and more casual stances in the appropriate setting. Everything, from his warrior stance to the stubborn set of his mouth to the commanding gaze of his dark brown eyes, state that this man is indeed of a proud and good upbringing, even if he were to be stripped of his finery.
And finery Yukimura often finds himself clad in, what with the Sanadas being one of the more powerful clans in Japan's current feudal political scene. However, he tends to keep himself away from the stiff layered kimono most often seen in the more courtly circles and prefers to don his own set of crimson samurai armor, whose new sheen (and his unscarred visage) indicate a lack of heavy wear or use, which may lead some to think it's simply for show. Yukimura does possess an elaborate antlered helmet to go with the armor, but tends to instead favor a headband adorned with his family's crest, used to keep his otherwise unruly dark brown hair in check.
Personality: There are many words to describe Yukimura's personality and attitude; some bad, some good. Loyal is a phrase many would use, regardless of their overall opinion of him. Loyalty is one trait that Yukimura possesses in abundance, and his faithfulness is worthy of praise. Honesty is another trait he also possesses, though sometimes he can seem too honest, for Yukimura is not one to be afraid of putting things bluntly. Both traits can actually be something of a hindrance at times, due to the fact that Yukimura is still a young man, and almost all young men are predisposed to the reckless pattern of acting before thinking. He's very good at that, so is often kept on something of a tight leash before he goes and does something dumb.
Speaking of dumb and reckless.... the not-so-perfect side of Yukimura. Everyone has their flaws in their personality, and Yukimura is no exception to that rule. In addition to his vulnerability to not thinking things through before acting, he can be quite stubborn and rigid. His preconceived notions of the world are firmly set in his head, and it takes a lot of effort to even change his mind on matters, if he even allows it to be changed at all. It must be said he is surprisingly tolerant of demons and half-breeds, though he is slower to accept them than he would other humans. Yet can one blame him?
Strengths: Heroism- Prone to valiant deeds and random speeches in regards to justice, Yukimura has an inspiring and heroic air about him, which can tend to draw people to his side.
Weapons Mastery- Although Yukimura almost exclusively wields a spear, he is very knowledgeable in most native weapons, as well as a few Western weapons.
Family- The Sanada clan is a powerful and influential family, which certainly has its perks. Respect, disposable income.... all that good stuff.
Weaknesses: Human- Tough and cool as some may make him out to be, Yukimura is still just a human whose stamina and strength can't match up with supernatural beings. Unless they're kinda weak, in which case he can probably take them on.
Single-minded- Pretty self-explanatory. He's still a reckless youngster without the mental focus to pay attention to more than one important thing at a time. Of course, even with age and wisdom and focus, he doesn't seem the type to be terribly good at multitasking.
Stubborn- Once this boy sets his mind to something he's not terribly willing to change it. Ad that's putting things lightly. Very rigid and inflexible, he is. Of course, he will listen to his superiors because otherwise that is so totally rude.
Weapons: Spear- It's a spear. There are many others like it, but this one's his. Granted, it's more finely crafted than what one would find in the hands of a foot soldier or peasant, but there really is nothing terribly unique or special to it.
Items: Armor- Yukimura is the proud owner of a fine red suit of armor, as expected to a son of the proud Sanada clan. It also comes with a helmet adorned with deer antlers, but Yukimura tends to eschew it in favor of a simple headband decorated with his family crest.
History: In what we would call the modern times, Yukimura Sanada is perhaps one of the most famous and easiest samurai names to recall from the tumultuous period of Japanese history known as the Warring States period. His greatest deed in the history books was his unwavering resoluteness in holding Osaka castle against the armies of Ieyasu Tokugawa, despite being heavily outnumbered. He fell, but fell heroically, marking him as the most famous member of his clan and a famous figure through Japanese history as well as the last major obstacle in the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate.
Of course, that's how his life ends. I suppose it would be more prudent to go back to the beginning and cover the events up in his life until the here and now, instead of describing his last year of life.
Yukimura was born as the second of two sons to Masayuki Sanada, the current leader of the powerful Sanada clan and one of the most acclaimed generals of the era, located in the Shinano province, located almost in the center of Japan. He was born with the given name of Nobushige; how exactly he came under the name of Yukimura is unknown, but there it stands. Of his childhood, there is little enough to say, although it is a given that with Japan's relatively unstable political structure through the course of his childhood made the boy subject to long and strict lessons and training in the arts of war. He got along well enough with his family; he and his brother were not overtly close despite being a mere year apart in age, and while his father was a rarely-seen figure to the youth Yukimura always thinks fondly of the times he was able to see his father.
When he was 18 years of age, his father fell in dispute with a member of the neighboring Hojo clan over the ownership of Numata castle. Truthfully the subject of the castle had been a sore spot between the two for a good while, but it had finally erupted into combat. With the threats of Ieyasu Tokugawa and his rumored plans to attack the Sanada's own Ueda castle, Yukimura was offered as something of a political hostage to the Uesugi clan in exchange for soldiers. Yukimura was placed under the watchful eye of Mitsuchika Suda for the duration of the campaign.
Of course, with Tokugawa's defeat and the rumors of his father forming an alliance with Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Yukimura may be able to leave the Uesugi clan and return to his own home soon...
RP Sample: The autumn morning dawned crisp and clear, and with the dawning the Suda household came to a bustling life. It was busy, though there was a methodical nature to the busy household; the same steady rhythm that spoke of a methodical ritual that was undergone just like the day previous, and like all the days previous to that one. One could be reminded of ants bustling about an anthill, complete with the neatness and efficiency that one would expect from a lord's house.
Yet there was a little something that was to disturb today's little ritual, a little something that had been disturbing the ritual with an almost equally methodical frequency for almost the entirety of the past year. It was something only those familiar with the typical morning activities could discern, so skilled were the servants and staff at treating things like the disturbance was all part of the routine. It was a young man, and with him a bleary-eyed samurai of the house guard who had obviously been dragged out of bed by the former figure. The young man was tall, and though the sun was barely glimmering over the horizon he was as keen-eyed and alert as if it were a more reasonable waking hour of the day.
"Come on Nobu-san," the youth urged, fingers impatiently trailing themselves along the lacquered wooden shaft of a practice spear. "You promised."
"It's early," the other complained, his own hands gripped loosely around what could pass for a twin practice spear. "It's early Sanada-san."
"You promised yesterday that you'd teach me."
The other man made a sigh and shook his head, freeing one hand to wipe at his eyes. "I did. But not so early. It's early, Sanada-san."
The youth frowned and huffed. Ever since coming here, Yukimura had made it a point to find himself as many teachers as he could. It was the best way to keep him from growing too bored, he had found. Literature had never been a strength of his, and with him playing hostage, his riding chances were limited. Thus the typical routine of finding samurai of the household to teach him in... anything. Of course, sometimes he was overeager to learn and these early-morning "clashes" occurred. Typically Yukimura would try and press on, but Nobu did not seem like one who would give in to his fussing. Reluctantly, Yukimura allowed himself to admit defeat.
"All right," he sighed. "Lather today, though? Please?"
"Of course, of course."
